Dubai, Nov 08: The country is currently ranked third in the world in terms of per capita income, after Switzerland and Luxembourg, an English periodical brough out from Beirut has claimed. The finance minister of Qatar estimates a dollar 150 million surplus in the state budget for the current fiscal year.
"As a result, the Qatari government estimates that within three years, their population will have the highest per capita income," 'Business Life' said.
Qatar's current per capita income is estimated at over $28,000.

Once a poor state, Qatar has achieved the current economic status due to its gas and oil reserves. Oil revenues have allowed the creation of an all-embracing welfare state, with many services being free or heavily subsidised.
The country's population is small -- about 500,000 -- and foreigners outnumber native Qataris. Bureau Report
