London, Jan 30: The BBC issued an unconditional apology today after its top two executives resigned in the wake of the Hutton report which lambasted editorial systems and the supervision of its board of governors.

''The BBC must now move forward in the wake of Lord Hutton's report, which highlighted serious defects in the corporation's processes and procedures,'' said acting chairman Richard Ryder.
''On the behalf of the BBC I have no hesitation in apologising unreservedly for our errors and to the individuals whose reputations were affected by them.''
BBC Director General Greg Dyke stepped down today, one day after the resignation of chairman Gavyn Davies.
