New Delhi, Aug 07: The CBI today filed chargesheet against two judges, including a district and sessions judge, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh from a person in may this year.
The chargesheet was filed against district and sessions judge Jalandhar R M Gupta and first class judicial magistrate of Chandigarh S S Bhardawaj before the designated CBI court at Chandigarh, a CBI spokesman said.
The duo have been slapped with charges under Section 120-b (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of prevention of corruption act, the spokesman said. CBI had arrested the duo on May 11 but Bhardawaj had managed to given slip to the agency sleuths on the pretext of consoling his weeping wife.
However, after days of legal wrangling and rejection of his bail plea by Supreme Court, the accused magistrate surrendered before a court in Chandigarh.
