London, Oct 01: London police investigate alleged rape involving Premier league soccer players
British police confirmed on Tuesday (September 30) they were investigating a teenage girl's allegation of rape which newspapers have blamed on eight professional footballers. "Detectives from Westminster's Sapphire Unit are carrying out an investigation following the receipt of an allegation of rape and sexual assault from a 17-year-old female," police said in a statement.
"The female made the allegation in person at a central London police station on September 27, 2003," they added. "There have been no arrests."

Newspapers have reported that the girl consented to sex with one Premier League player at a London's Grosvenor House hotel over the weekend, but seven other players from different teams joined in against her wishes.

The players have not been named, but are said to include "at least one international and several other household names", the papers said.
