Ara, Oct 06: One person was killed and another injured when police opened fire to disperse two warring groups in Gopalichak locality under town police station of Bihar's Bhojpur district last evening, police said. They said the police fired when the situation turned violent after a puja pandal was set on fire by members of a particular community.

In retaliation, the members of another community set afire a few shops. With the situation turning violent, the police opened fire in which one person identified as Chote Prasad of Khetari locality of the town was killed and another injured, they said. Bhojpur District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar and Superintendent of Police A K Ambedkar who were camping in the area told a news agency that situation was under control and security was beefed up in the town to ensure peaceful immersion of Goddess Durga idols.
