Baghdad, Aug 05: Iraq's interim governing council convened today for talks on the nomination of Cabinet ministers, council member Muwaffak al-Rubai said.
"Saddam Hussein's regime has been overthrown along
with its state apparatus. Our task is to build a new one,"
Rubai said.
"The issue is not easy. It is very complex and needs time," Rubai said, expressing hope it would be settled this week.
The US-appointed 25-member council will study criteria demanded and break up the ministries as a matter of priority, he said. It will have to tackle issues of whether to select technocrats or politicians or former high ranking officials, as well as picking ministers who reflect Iraq's ethno-religious mosaic.
The ministries will not have an "easy mission," Rubai said.
