Amritsar, June 05: Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal was today directed by Sikhs' highest religious body to make offering and organise recitation of holy book Guru Granth Sahib when he sought forgiveness for any mistake committed by him knowingly or unknowingly. Immediately after the directives by the Akal Takht chief Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti and four other high priests, Badal offered 'Karha Parsad' and would organise the 'Akhand Path' (recitation from Guru Granth Sahib) shortly.
Badal had been called for "consultations" after he wrote a letter to Vedanti recently stating that he would like to express regrets if he had done anything wrong knowingly or unknowingly in the past.
Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal president G S Tohra, who was also to appear before the Akal Takht after Badal, did not come due to illness.
Tohra and his supporters had stated that no unity could be possible until Badal appeared before the Akal Takht.
After meeting with high priests, Badal told reporters that unity with the Tohra faction was final and would be announced in Patiala after Tohra's recovery.
Vedanti had told yesterday that the Akal Takht was not playing any role for unity between the two Akali factions.
