Baramulla, Feb 09: Life in Bandipora town and adjoining villages remained paralysed for the second day today following protests against the killing of five persons allegedly by security forces. Shops and business establishments in the town and adjoining areas remained closed and traffic was off the roads. A report said that hundreds of villagers, mostly women and children, took to the streets this morning despite snowfall at Arigam, demanding action against security forces involved in the incident. The demonstrators raising slogans against troops and the state government said about 25 persons were 'taken away' by the security forces recently to work as labourers from Arigam and another adjoining village. They alleged that the labourers were later used as human shields by the security forces during an encounter with militants in the forest area. Police said six militants, five civilians and three soldiers were killed in the encounter. The police had a tough time yesterday in controlling the demonstrators who also attacked police station and set vehicle on fire. Senior civil and police officials were in town to assure the demonstrators that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident. Bureau Report
