Hyderabad, Oct 14: Holding talks with the People’s
War Group without any prejudices, ensuring right to means of
livelihood and putting an end to the misuse of surrendered
naxals by police were today suggested by Peoples Union for
Civil Liberties to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu
Naidu who has survived an assassination bid by naxalites.
President of PUCL K G Kannabiran, who called on Naidu,
told reporters here that negotiations have become increasingly
necessary as fear has become the common factor among the VVIPs
and common people alike after the attack on Chief Minister at
Tirupati on October 01.
The VVIPs are apprehensive of their security while the common man is fearing a backlash and such a situation may prompt the state to resume the talks with PWG, Kannabiran, who was consulted by former chief ministers on the extremists issue, said.
An alternative to the talks, which failed last year, could be by ensuring land reforms and providing educational and employment opportunities to all sections and reduce social disparities, he said.
Alleging that surrendered naxals were being used by police to terrorise popular movements, Kannabiran said, "this unfair practice should be stopped. Their bails should be cancelled and should be tried and jailed," he said.
On his meeting with Naidu, he said, "I did not go there for long discussions. I have put my views in the form of a letter and gave it to chief minister. He appeared to be very sober and was not angry against anyone but wanted to have a violence-free society."
