Srinagar, Apr 24: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the
Congress today claimed that a security lapse was to be blamed
for the militant attack on its state headquarters yesterday,
in which 13 persons including five security force officers
were injured.
"The attack on our party headquarters here is a security
lapse to a large extent," JKPCC spokesman Muzaffar Parray told
reporters here.
He said the attack took place in a busy area where
civilians move around in large numbers and posed a threat to
them.
"I am not saying this because of the threat to political leaders but to the common man who does not have bullet proof jackets or cars for their security," Parray said.
Holding opposition national conference responsible for the present situation in the state including the yesterday's attack, Parray said, "We have to look at the reasons for the youth taking to arms and one of the major factor is unemployment in the state".
"National conference is responsible for destroying the handicraft, tourism and agriculture sectors as well as adding to the unemployment woes of the people during its rule," he alleged.
He said the previous national conference government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Centre to put a seven-year freeze on recruitments, thereby ending all avenues of employment for the youth of the state.
Responding to the NC charges of non-performance of the coalition government, Parray said "18 months is a very short span but we have put an end to special task force responsible for human rights violation and revoked the draconian law Pota from the state". Bureau Report
