Bhopal, Nov 06: About 30 per cent of polling booths in Madhya Pradesh have been identified as "sensitive" and will require heavy deployment of security forces, high-tech gadgets and helicopters to ensure free and fair assembly polls on December 01, official sources here said today.
As many as 12,600 out of more than 41,400 polling booths spread over the state, including many in the naxalite affected Balaghat and Mandla districts, have been identified as sensitive, sources said.
In order to prevent any untoward incident in the run up to the elections as also during polling and counting of votes, the state government had sought over 20,000 police personnel and 8500 para-military forces from the Centre. About 300 para-military personnel have already been despatched to the state while the rest are slated to be sent towards the last week of this month.
Elaborate security arrangements have been worked out under the direct guidance of top echelons of state's civil and police administration including chief secretary A V Singh and Director General of Police Dinesh Jugran, to ensure smooth elections. Steps have been taken to seal the state's borders at "selected" points to prevent inflow of criminals and anti-social elements from neighbouring states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, sources said.
In the naxalite-hit district of Balaghat, collector Rajesh Rajora has sought three additional companies of security forces for deployment in sensitive areas, they said.
