Dharmapuri, Apr 28: As part of pre-poll precautionary measures, police on Wednesday arrested eight persons for possessing arms illegally and seized 15 guns after conducting raids in forest areas in Dharmapuri district, one of the haunts of dreaded forest brigand Veerappan.
Police also declared 22 pockets in the district as super sensitive and 50 as sensitive.

The licence holders had been asked to surrender their firearms to the respective police stations prior to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, police said.

Thirteen People's Democratic Youth Association volunteers were also held in the district on Wednesday for pasting posters calling upon voters not to cast their votes, police said.

In another raid, 46 gelatine sticks were seized and five persons were held in this connection, they added.
