New Delhi, July 12: The BJP reiterated today that it was not possible for the party to pass a legislation for temple construction at Ayodhya. Reacting to VHP’s latest offensive, BJP president Venkaiah Naidu said today that political compulsions made it difficult for the party to pass such a legislation.
Naidu said the Sangh Parivar outfits must remember that the BJP was not running the government alone and it was impossible for the party to force its will on its coalition partners. However, he insisted that the party has not gone back on its agenda, including the issue of a uniform civil code. The VHP had yesterday demanded that a legislation for construction of Ram Temple on undisputed land in Ayodhya be passed in the monsoon session of Parliament.
It has been asking for the resignation of Prime Minister Vajpayee for “failing” to bring in the legislation on Ayodhya. The BJP has taken serious note of VHP’s opposition since it can adversely affect the party’s electoral fortunes in the forthcoming polls.
Top BJP and RSS leaders are meeting this evening to work out how best to tackle VHP’s anti-BJP utterances, especially till the elections. Bureau Report
