New Delhi, Nov 13: In the wake of reports that the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is planning to go in for snap assembly polls, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today asked partymen in the state to close ranks to emerge victorious against TDP. Gandhi gave the message to PCC president D Srinivas who met her to discuss various organisational matters in the backdrop of revolt among party MLAs in Telangana region for a separate PCC for the region.

Srinivas merely said that all problems would be sorted out much before the elections but declined to specify. CWC member Ghulam Nabi Azad who is in charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh also met Gandhi. PCC treasurer D Vitthal Rao and PCC general secretary Gauri Shankar, who also met Gandhi, demanded formation of a separate election committee for Telangana to assuage the feelings of people championing the cause of separate state.

They also wanted an alliance with the Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) spearheading agitation over separate statehood.

They said Congress, which has 41 out of 107 seats in the region, should be the major partner in such a tieup. Bureau Report
