Roxy Music band reunites after 18 yrs
British art-rock smoothies Roxy Music are getting together again for a three-month tour after nearly 18 years apart.
Citing “unfinished business”, the group announced they would be playing arena venues in Ireland, Scotland and England later this year. Other dates on their grandly-named “world tour” remain to be confirmed.
The band, famed for hits such as Virginia Plain and Love is the Drug, also held out the possibility of recording new songs.
“We`ve got no plans with regard to recording. Who knows? Ask us again in September when we finish the tour,” lead singer Bryan Ferry said.
Roxy Music enjoyed their heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, although they only had one chart-topper in Britain, a version of John Lennon`s Jealous Guy.
The band last played together in May 1983 touring the hit album Avalon. They plan to pick up to four songs from each of their eight studio albums, but have not decided which of the hundred-plus tracks to use on the show.
“The tour was proposed and we are all in a position where we have time to do it,” added Ferry, who has also enjoyed success as a solo artiste. “I have been on tour myself a lot in the last year so I have got into the habit of being on stage again. I`ve been doing quite a few songs from the Roxy years in my show and so I thought the logical extension of that was to put the band together.” Bureau Report
