New Delhi, Oct 16: Upholding right to strike in view of a landmark judgement from Supreme Court banning strikes by government employees is likely to figure at a three-day Indian Labour Conference (ILC) beginning today.
The 39th session of the conference would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and attended by Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma, an official release said here.
The release said the agenda for the conference, which has so far been only a two-day affair, included rationalisation of labour laws, issues relating to employment generation, protection and skill development and social security for the unorganised sector.
However, All India Trade Union Congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta said he would raise the issue of mass dismissal of government employees and the question of right to strike with Vajpayee at ILC, which is the apex tripartite consultative machinery to advise the government on various policies in the labour field.
