Coimbatore, Dec 06: Over 450 activists belonging to Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam (TMMK) were arrested in the city when they were proceeding to stage protest on the occasion of 11th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition today. The arrests were made in groups, since the activists were coming in batches to the venue, near red cross building, about 200 metres from the district collectorate, police said.

Police, which has thrown tight security cover in and around the city to prevent any untoward incidents, had denied permission to the organisation for staging demonstration.
However, TMMK decided to go ahead with their plan to stage the protest.

More arrests were likely, as the workers continue their attempts to reach the venue from various parts of the district by vans and buses, police added.
