Shimla, May 03: Launching a frontal attack on the BJP for "not fulfilling" election promises, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today accused the NDA government of discriminating against the Congress-ruled states.
Addressing election meetings at Bilaspur and Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, Gandhi said BJP had promised to employment to 1-crore people every year and mitigate the sufferings of the poor, down-trodden farmers and other deprived sections but it "betrayed the trust of the people." "The number of unemployed youth had increased, farmers were committing suicide, inflation was on the rise," she said and accused the saffron party of trying to divert the attention of the people from its failures by launching the "India Shining" campaign. Claiming the pace of development had accelerated after the Congress was voted to power in Himachal Pradesh, Gandhi assured that her party would not go back on its words and not discriminate with other state governments once elected to power.
