Mumbai, June 13: More than 55 Indian designers will display their ready-to-wear collections next month at the country`s largest fashion meet, its organisers said on Thursday.
Top Indian models will sashay down the ramp, sporting the latest outfits, accessories and hairstyles during India Fashion Week between July 18 and 24 in Mumbai.

"This event is a part of our effort to develop the Indian fashion industry," Vinod Kaul, executive director of the Fashion Design Council of India, told a news conference.

He said the Council expected buyers from all over the country and abroad, including the United States, United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

Indian designers are increasingly making a mark on the international scene after decades of near anonymity.

Hemant Trevedi, J J Valaya, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Krishna Mehta will be among those exhibiting their pret-a-porter collections at the three-year-old annual event, modelled after extravaganzas in New York and Milan.

They will also be presenting outfits that are in between the pret and haute couture lines.

"I`m working on military and combat styles combined with soft fabrics and colours," designer Aki Narula said. "It`ll be edgy and aggressive, yet very feminine." Bureau Report
