Imphal, June 13: Manipur Assembly has asked the Centre to amend Article 3 and incorporate appropriate provisions in the constitution to protect the territorial integrity of the state in the wake of reported demand by NSCN(I-M) for merger of its hill area with Nagaland. A resolution urging the Centre to amend art 3 of the constitution for protecting the state boundaries was adopted unanimously by the house after a 11-hour discussion last night during the one-day special session on how to protect the 'historic' territories of Manipur. Following the discussion, Speaker T N Haokip announced that more than two-thirds of the 60-member house had called for amendment of the constitution to 'protect the state's territories.'
The resolution also urged upon the Centre to also assure the people of Manipur from the floor of parliament that the territorial integrity of the state would not be disturbed at any cost.
