The United States described the present tension between India and Pakistan as dangerous but said that the two neighbours wanted to see the tense stand-off resolved by political and diplomatic means.

State department spokesman Richard Boucher said that the US looked forward to the speech Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf would make, to hearing his intentions.

Boucher told reporters on Thursday said that both India and Pakistan have said they wanted to see the tensions between them resolved by political and diplomatic means.
By virtue of the fact that India seemed willing to move forward at least for a political and diplomatic solution, he said, "The US takes that as a positive evaluation of the efforts that Washington was making."
Asked whether the Indo-Pak crisis was easing somewhat, he said that may be going too far. "The US," Boucher said, "Thinks it continues to be a dangerous situation."
