New York, Sept 10: The World Health Organisation has declined to confirm the discovery of a new SARS case in Singapore, saying there were conflicting medical analyses and more tests were needed to reach a conclusion.
The case involves a 27-year-old medical student in Singapore who was working in a laboratory studying the SARS virus. He was hospitalised with high fever, but his temperature has returned to normal.
"The information at this point was conflicting," WHO spokesperson Fadela Chaib said.
"X-rays did not show that he had developed an atypical pneumonia; however other analysts believed that it might be a case of SARS," Chaib said.
WHO is waiting for the results of an independent laboratory on whether this is a case of SARS and will continue to monitor the situation, she said. Bureau Report
