New Delhi, Nov 04: Expressing serious concern over growing left wing extremism, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said the centre was planning to set up a special CRPF wing to tackle the menace and asked states to ensure all round development of areas affected by naxal terrorism. "There is a growing concern in the country over the rise of left wing extremism and the need for an effective strategy to counter the menace", he said inaugurating a three-day conference of director general's of police organized by the intelligence bureau here. Advani said naxalities had expanded their influence to nearly a dozen states and acquired improved weaponary as well as technology. The recent assassination bid on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu pointed to the disturbing possibility of a large hiatus between threat and response, he said. The Deputy Prime Minister said the centre was examining the feasibility of raising a CRPF wing specially trained to tackle naxalite groups. "The proposed wing will remain a striking force to be dovetailed with the composite action initiated by the state themselves against underground as well as overground cadres," Advani said. "The incident has underscored the pressing need for states to organize and employ their best resources, intelligence and active co-operation in combating this growing extremist network," he said.
