Mumbai, Aug 22: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which is conducting tests on 55 samples from nine premises of soft drink companies today said they found samples from Khalapur plant of Pepsi in Raigad district had contained pesticide residue. The FDA commissioner Uttam Khobbragade told newspersons that the testing lab informed him that they found the soft drinks contained 0.6 mg of Lindane which could be well above the permissible limits.
Khobragade said, "I will give notice to the Khalapur plant officials and let them explain how it is above permissible limits. So far there is no prescribed limits given anywhere on soft drinks."
Only after ascertaining that any action could be contemplated, he added.
