Madurai, June 13: A team of seven police officials, headed by an additional deputy superintendent of police, today searched the house of senior DMK leader M K Azhagiri at Azhagappan Nagar in the city. Azhagiri was arrested on May 21 for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to murder former DMK minister T Kiruttinan the previous day.

Police said that the search operations began at 9.30 am and lasted for more than four hours. A shop belonging to him in the city might also be searched, they said.

The details of the search, conducted in the presence of Azhagiri's wife Kandhi Azhagiri and revenue officials including a tehsildhar would be known later, police said.

The sixth judicial magistrate had, on June 9, granted permission to police to search Azhagiri's house as part of the investigation.
