Shops, commercial establishments and educatonal institutions remained closed in Jammu on Monday due to the bandh called by Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in protest against 'backdoor entry of private medico students' in government colleges and power curtailment in Jammu division.
ABVP national secretary, Ramesh Pappa, told PTI that bandh was observed in protest against "criminal silence" maintained by the government over the alleged backdoor entries of private medico students in government colleges and excessive power curtailment in Jammu division.

He said that ABVP has decided to launch second phase of agitation from tomorrow with 48-hour relay hunger strike at Sheedi Sathal in the city.
It will be followed by sending a delegation ABVP activists to Delhi to seek from central government an early withdrawal of admissions of medical students as well as to ensure proper power supply to Jammu.

Besides, signature campaign and tour of ABVP activists to districts will also be taken up to mobilise support, Pappa said adding we will carry a district level hunger strikes and satyagrahas till January 30.
Meanwhile, official reports said that the bandh affected the attendance in government departments, banks and other public and private undertakings.

The vehicular traffic was scanty in the city and groups of youth, raising slogans against the ruling National Conference, thew stones on passing vehicles. Bureau Report
