Shimla, July 27: Himachal BJP today alleged that the Congress' change of stance on land reforms, as stated in the agenda of governance adopted at the Shimla 'vichar manthan shivir', was fraught with "dangerous" consequences for the vulnerable sections of the society.
Addressing a press conference here, state BJP spokesman Baldev Sharma said that the suggestion of the congress to convert the 'presumptive titles' to 'conclusive titles' would result in grabbing of lands of the poor by powerful and influential people and they would be left to fend for themselves.
"This will tear our social farbic and lead to Bihar-like situation," he said.
Large scale litigation would be unavoidable if the proposal was implemented, he said and asked the congress-ruled states to give a second thought on the proposal and its repercussions on the people before moving further in this direction.
Sharma asked the congress to explain the reasons for change in its stance on land reforms. "It is a confession of failures of the congress governments on this front during four decades of its rule."
Flaying the Congress demand for the resignation of deputy prime minister L K Advani and HRD minister M M Joshi, Sharma said that the Congress chief ministers facing charges of serious nature in various courts were continuing in office.
