Kolkata, July 21: Apparently not perturbed over resurfacing of the "foreign origin" issue, congress today reaffirmed the party's "final destination" is to wrest power at the Centre with Sonia Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate.
"Our final destination is to regain power at the Centre and make Sonia Gandhi the prime minister of the country," AICC general secretary Salman Khursheed said here.
The party would also fight back in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh to capture power in these states.
Terming the fight against the ruling left front in West Bengal as their "toughest" assignment, he said "we also have a crucial struggle in hand in UP".
"Our target is to capture writers buildings here and the Lal Quila in Delhi. Sonia Gandhi has expressed her whole hearted support to party workers here, who are deprived of their basic right to co-exist as a political force by the ruling front," Khursheed said while addressing a youth Congress rally to observe 'Martyrs Day'.
The YC organised a 'march towards Lalbazar', the city police headquarter demanding punishment of the policemen who gunned down 13 party activists during a rally in 1993. The party, therefore, observes the day every year as 'Martyr's Day'.
In an apparent reference to Trinamool Congress, which also organised a separate programme to observe the day, Khursheed said "if anybody wants to join hands with US to fight the CPI(M), it must severe ties with bjp and accept the leadership of Sonia Gandhi".
