Kolkata, May 14: Kolkata may be the soccer capital of the country, but Goa is learning the lessons faster, as is evident at the `a` license football coaching course at the Sai Centre here. Altogether 23 coaches from all over the country have gathered at the Sai Centre here to obtain the `a` license for coaching from Asian Football Confederation`s(AFC) former technical director and current FIFA technical consultant S. Subramanium.
The coaches of all the major Goan clubs were present. Even Manipur has five coaches including National Woman Team`s coach Shantakumar Singh.
This Malaysian-born coach of Indian origin is surprised at the low attendence of coaches from Bengal. When told about NFL champions East Bengal`s coach Subhas Bhowmik, who without any coaching diploma is the currently the country`s most successful coach, he said today, ``he seems to be a very capable person. But if he gradually acquires the ``a` license I believe he can be a far better.``
``With this license one can learn the most modern aspects of soccer coaching. As the entire world gives the same training for ``a`` level the coaches can have an uniform understanding of the game. As a result there will be no difference of coaching between the clubs and the national team which helps the players to cope with the techniques better,`` he added.
The top five teams to participate in next year`s National Football League (NFL) have all send their coaches to the upgradation centre to Subramanium, one of the vital cogs in the 1986 world cup FIFA study group.
``If india wants to improve the footballing standard, coaches` training is a must. I agree things cannot be changed overnight, but the administration should have a limited time frame like England for this,`` he said. Bureau Report
