New Delhi, Sept 18: The Centre’s gross tax collections grew by 10% and stood at Rs 85,000 crore up to the end of August this year compared to Rs 77,000 crore up to the end of August last year. This is, however, lower than the targeted growth rate of around 14% required to meet the budget targets. Net tax collections were only marginally higher at Rs 62,491 crore till the end of August this year, compared to Rs 62,325 crore in the same period last year due to hefty refund payouts.
Direct tax revenues stood at around Rs 14,463 crore compared to Rs 14,541 crore up to the end of August ‘02. Bureau Report
