Bangalore, Sept 30: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will pay a visit to Karnataka today in the wake of a spate of suicides by farmers, announced here today. She will arrive from Indore at 1000 hrs.
Gandhi would be visiting the houses of the farmers who
committed suicide due to crop loss, as told by KPCC president B Janardhana Poojary but he refused to name the place, saying "it is not yet finalised".
He thanked the electorate of Hungund and Vemagal constituencies for supporting the party in the bye-poll.
While Congress retained the Hungund seat, it lost Vemagal to All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD). The Congress was satisfied with its performance in Vemagal where the party increased the percentage of votes, he said.
He alleged that AIPJD indulged in rigging during polling and all the Opposition parties, including BJP, supported AIPJD candidate.
He claimed the election results have proved that even if all the Opposition parties fought unitedly, they "could not defeat" Congress in the next assembly elections due next year.
He said the unity of Janata Parivar parties would never materialise in the state.
Poojary claimed that the S M Krishna government was performing well and would be voted back to power in the next assembly polls. There was no scope for any anti-incumbency working against the party, he said. Bureau Report
