Differences have begun cropping within the 23-party Hurriyat Conference over the formation of a parallel election commission with some executive members of the amalgam and second rung leaders raising objection for not having been consulted over the issue. Hurriyat insiders said that the two executive members of the conglomerate had objected to the formation of the team saying that none of the minority leaders had been included in the commission.
Hurriyat Conference's executive committee, which met last week, failed to arrive at any decision on the issue saying that two of its leaders were away in the national capital and a decision could be taken only after their return. However, the Hurriyat chairman announced the composition of the commission even though both the leaders -- Abdul Gani Lone and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq -- were still in the capital.
The insiders said the two leaders were not consulted before the formation of the team besides its so-called chief election commissioner Tapan Bose was also not informed before making the announcement. The Election Commission is exclusively a brain-child of the JKLF chairman Yaseen Malik, which received support from the Huriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat, insiders said.
They said that some of the second rung leaders had also written from jail to Hurriyat executive members asking them not to toy with such an idea.
