New Delhi, Nov 27: The CBI tonight received a request from Assam government seeking a probe into the recent killing of Biharis in the state. The CBI received the notification from the ministry of home affairs after the state government sent in its request for a probe into the killing of Biharis in the state, official sources said here.

The CBI was studying the request and a regular case (RC) or a preliminary enquiry (PE) would be registered by it in consultation with the legal department, the sources said.
The Assam government has requested to probe various aspects of the massacre, including unraveling the brain behind the criminal conspiracy.

Under fire for its alleged mishandling of the anti-Bihari violence in the state, Assam government yesterday announced to seek a CBI probe into the killings in which 56 people were massacred so far.

The state government has been alleging that killing of Biharis had taken place due to insufficient presence of central para-military forces, a charge denied by the Centre.
