Lucknow, June 26: The CBI may record the statement of controversial former BSP minister Amar Mani Tripathi in the Madhumita Shukla murder case having taken over from the Crime Branch, CID. The CBI has begun investigation in the case after carefully going through the evidences collected by the CB-CID, senior official said here today.
"The CBI will start investigation afresh. It will concentrate on two points - who killed Madhumita and what was the motive behind the killing," said the official.
"The sleuths will quiz whomsoever they deem fit," the official said giving an indication that the agency may record the statement of controversial former BSP minister Amar Mani Tripathi in the case. He said that the investigating agency was not bothered about political nuances of this case.
The CBI has been entrusted with a job and it will complete it as early as possible, the official added.
Triptahi had evaded CB-CID and reportedly had not given his statement to the state investigating agency.
The official said a team of CBI sleuths will also go to Lakhimpur Khiri and record the statements of the family members of the slain poetess. The CBI sleuths have also taken possession of keys of the Paper Mill residence of Madhumita and are likely to investigate the place where the poetess was killed on May 9.
A 10-member CBI team yesterday reached the state capital and held a meeting with the senior officials of the CB-CID, the details of which were not divulged.
The 24-year-old poetess was killed on May 9 at her Paper Mill Colony residence by two assailants. The killing created a political storm following revelation that former BSP minister Amar Mani Tripathi allegedly enjoyed an intimate relation with the poetess.
Following this, Chief Minister Mayawati sacked Tripathi and handed over the case to CB-CID with a warning to complete the probe within a month.
As the CB-CID failed to submit its report within stipulated time, she suspended DG and SP, CB-CID and recommended CBI probe into the case on June 17. Bureau Report
