New Delhi, June 12: The fire department has issued notices to about 69 state government high-rises, including major hospitals such as Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan, G B Pant, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Deen Dayal Upadhaya and Sushrut Trauma Hospital here for "not following" fire safety norms.
"We found these buildings to be unsafe and not in
compliance with fire safety norms. So we have sent notices to
all of them asking to rectify the systems," Chief Fire Officer
R C Sharma told.
The department identified 12 buildings, which were not having even 2-3 out of the 12 minimum fire prevention and safety measures. While remaining 57 buildings were not having all 12 preventive measures in working condition, the notices were sent to 69 buildings on June 10 with a deadline of four weeks, he said.
"We have given them four weeks time to get things right. After the deadline if they can not get the systems working, we will take action according to the high court's directive on the issue," he said.
Meanwhile, state health minister A K Walia said, there were no major faults in government hospitals and the faults regarding fire safety would be rectified within the time-frame.
"There are no major faults in the fire systems in the hospitals," he said, adding there might be minor faults in the fire safety measures being taken and those would be corrected.
