London, May 26: Over a fifth of mobile users are keen to own a videophone, promising a huge market for operators planning to roll out the next level of cellular phone services, says a leading British market researcher. The report, based on a survey of 2,187 mobile users by JD Power and Associates, should be particularly heartening for 3 UK Holdings, a third generation (3G) mobile pioneer and the only operator which now offers video calling services in Britain. "It pays for providers to encourage usage of more modern mobile phones and content since these owners spend significantly more per month than those who own less advanced phones," Gunda Lapski, JD Power's director of European telecoms and utilities services said in a statement. The US-based forecaster said 18 per cent of mobile customers in the UK already owned a camera phone, with another 26 per cent of users interested in owning such phones. About 87 per cent of the UK 's 59 million people own mobile phones, creating a potential market of nearly 12 million for videophones. Bureau Report
