Ahmedabad, Nov 24: Eleven riot victims/witnesses from the Ahmedabad district (rural) today deposed before the two-man commission probing the post-Godhra communal violence here, many of them alleged that they were yet to receive the insurance or loan amount for the losses. Zakir Bagariya, a resident of Kochrab, told the Commission Comprising Justice (Retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (Retd) K G Shah that his cracker manufacturing factory in Aslali area was torched by a rioting mob on February 28 last year and despite a government clearance for a loan of Rs 67 lakh more than a year ago, nothing has been given to him as yet.
Bagariya, who also submitted all related documents, said his losses were to the tune of Rs 92 lakh for which he put forward an insurance claim of Rs 60 lakh, out of which only Rs 28 lakh was awarded by the insurance firm.
Following this, he applied for a government loan, which was sanctioned on June 10 last year but he has not got any money till date and has been running from one bank to another.
Dawood Mansuri, another riot victim from Kanbha area, said a mob had completely looted and torched his three houses during the post-Godhra riots and for losses worth nearly Rs 8 lakh the government paid him just Rs 20,000 compensation.
A riot victim from Kuha village of Kanbha said that a mob had completely burnt his home and though there was no loss to life, property worth nearly Rs two lakh was damaged.
The commission would record deposition of riot victims/ witnesses from Detroj and Viramgaam tomorrow.
