New Delhi, July 29: A city court today framed charges against six hawala operators including an afghan national, having alleged links with Pakistan, for violating provisions of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V K Maheshwari framed charges against Jaswinder Singh alias Raju, Mohd Muslim alias Gullu, Mustaq Ahmed Gilkar, Mustaq Ahmed Bhatt, Faiz Ahmad Paddar and Sohail Adrish under FERA observing that there was prima facie evidence to do the same.
Sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Singh, an Afghan national, and Muslim from the walled city area of the captial in September 1998. Their interrogation revealed the hawala links, said ED counsel Naveen Matta.
Muslim revealed that he was brought into hawala trade by one Rizwan of Lahore.
Their interrogation led the sleuths to the four co-accused. Confirming the Pakistani link, Gilkar, in his confessional statement said that ISI had been funding them to carry out terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, Matta added.
