Kolkata, Mar 30: At least four international consortia, are likely to vie for greater Kolkata's rapid and flexible transport system, according to official sources. While a Swiss company and Japan's Itochu Corporation had already made a presentation before the state government, British consortium Mackeller Architecture and Danish consortium RUF International made separate presentations before the state government.

The sources said all the four offers were made on bot basis. While the project cost was not actually known, the British conosrtium estimated a cost of about Rs 5,000 crore for light rail system between Barrackpore in the north and Joka in the south. The Danish consortium offer would cost Rs 650 crore per 50 kms for the rapid transport system.

The state government is likely to float global tender soon for introduction of the rapid transport system in greater Kolkata.
