Muzaffarpur, Sept 22: Huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered by the police from Muzzarfarpur district of Bihar late last night after an encounter with the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) activists, police said today.
Deputy inspector general of police, Tirhut range, S K Bhardwaj told reporters that the police surrounded the village after it got a tip off that MCC activists had assembled there for some meeting.
Seeing the police, the ultras started firing on them. In retaliation, the security forces returned the fire forcing the ultras to retreat, the DIG said.
The exchange of gun-shots continued for sometime, he said adding no casualty was reported.
The MCC activists managed to flee from the scene taking advantage of the darkness, he said.
The police recovered arms and ammunition believed to have been looted from the police in the past.
Senior police officers were camping in the area and a combing operation launched to nab the ultras, Bhardwaj added.
