Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: A demonstration, called by Orissa Pradesh Youth Congress to protest the "failure" of the state government on all fronts and demand its dismissal, today turned violent as protestors clashed with police, injuring 35 people, mostly policemen at Sambalpur, official reports said. Trouble started when some youth congress activists tried to force their entry into the district Collectorate resulting in a clash with the police. Some demonstrators then resorted to heavy brick-batting in which several policemen were injured.


Lathi-wielding policemen chased away the demonstrators who damaged two police vehicles. Two photographers were also injured in the incident.

Police had rounded up about 40 people in connection with the incident.
