Lankan Army officers remanded for attacking UN woman
Colombo, Oct 19: Two Sri Lankan Army officers were remanded in custody today for assaulting a foreign woman working for the United Nations, police said.
Colombo, Oct 19: Two Sri Lankan Army officers were remanded in custody today for assaulting a foreign woman working for the United Nations, police said.
The Army Major and captain were ordered to be kept in remand jail till Thursday pending further police investigations into a brawl at a night club in the picturesque Central Hill Resort of Kandy last night, police said.
They said four other army who had been summoned by the two officers to reinforce them had been handed over to the military police for a separate disciplinary inquiry.
"We are filing a case of sexual harassment on the two officers," a police official in Kandy, 72 miles east of here," said by telephone.
The identity of the victim was not disclosed to protect her privacy.
The officers are said to have attacked the foreign woman with the butt of a pistol, injuring her in the forehead. The victim was discharged from hospital in Kandy after treatment.
The victim as well as several other United Nations employees were attending a workshop in Kandy, local officials said.
