New Delhi, Dec 19: Scores of autorickshaw drivers were detained by police today for blocking vehicular traffic in south Delhi even as their strike entered the 11th day.
Panthers Party's Delhi unit secretary Harsh Malhotra claimed that more than 300 TSR drivers alongwith their Delhi unit chief Sanjay Sachdev were detained by police at Malviya Nagar for blocking traffic under their "Chakka Jam" programme as part of their agitation for increase in fares.
Claiming support of over 70,000 TSR drivers, Sachdev had announced yesterday that they would hold an "indefinite" 'Chakka Jam' in the city.
For the past 11 days, auto unions have been demanding a raise in auto fares after Delhi government launched a campaign to suspend permits of those TSR drivers who were not using electronic metres.
Police released the drivers after traffic on the busy roads in Delhi were cleared. Bureau Report
