Kolkata, Sept 26: West Bengal government today suspended three wardens and issued a show cause notice to the superintendent of the high-security Dum Dum Central Jail from where five undertrials, including a Myanmarese accused in the sensational narcotics haul from former CBI Additional Director U N Biswas' residence, escaped yesterday. State Jail Minister Biswanath Choudhury told media persons that the three wardens on duty at the time of the incident had been suspended with immediate effect. "We have also asked the jail SP to show cause as to how such a breach of security happened," Choudhury said over phone from Balurghat. The minister said further course of action would be chalked out after he reaches the metropolis tomorrow. The accused in the narcotics bust case included Baikha Khema who along with Sheikh Binod, another accused in a number of murder and abduction cases, was among the escapees. Binod had been arrested from a north kolkata nursing home in 2000 after a strenous hunt by the police. The other three escapees were Binod's accomplices. The jail authorities had ordered an inquiry into the incident and security in other jails of the state had been tightened, DIG (HQ) N C Ghosh said. An alert was sounded in the district to track down the escapees, as the police were searching the rail and road routes to detect them, he added. Bureau report
