Dehradun, June 20: The Uttaranchal government today decided not to file an FIR in the unwed mother episode even as former revenue minister Harak Singh Rawat, who is alleged to have fathered the child, pressed for a DNA test to ascertain the truth. "After consulting legal experts, we decided not to file an FIR into this episode," information minister Indira Hridayesh said after a high-level meeting held at Chief Minister N D Tiwari's residence.

The decision not to file an FIR came a day after Tiwari announced a CBI probe into the matter.

No FIR has been lodged so far in the scandal.

Meanwhile, Rawat, who resigned after the unwed mother Zenie told a House committee that he had "fathered" her child, said he wanted that the FIR be lodged and the DNA test be conducted to ascertain the truth.

"This is very baffling that the government is not lodging an FIR in the scandal," said. "I have already expressed my views in the assembly. Both the Speaker as well as the government should take notice of what I have said on record," he said.

Rawat's wife Deepti has also called for an immediate DNA test, in a letter to Tiwari, as, she said, the episode had tarnished the image of her husband.
