Chennai, Dec 10: A press release from Minardi said that they had been following Karthikeyan's career closely in recent years and, impressed with his performances, wished to take the opportunity to evaluate him in a current Formula I car.
"If the session goes well, there is a strong possibility that the Indian could be asked to join the team in 2004," it said.
Minardi said the team would run two cars a day at Vallelunga, one to be used for an extensive technical development programme and the other, for driver evaluation.
Karthikeyan said "this is a great opportunity for me. To be offered this test by Minardi demonstrates that people in Formula 1 have been taking notice of what I have been doing.
"It will be a great publicity for India and Indian Motor Sport."
