Coimbatore, July 04: In the wake of an FIR registered under Pota and unlawful activities act of 1967, against its general secretary Vaiko, MDMK has convened an emergency meeting in Chennai tomorrow, to chalk out future strategy. Besides himself, the meeting would be attended by party presidium president L Ganesan, Union minister Gingee Ramachandran and one of the general secretaries Nazareth Durai, party treasurer and union minister of state for non-conventional energy sources, M Kannappan, told a news agency over phone from Alamapalayam, about 40-kms from here. Kannappan said the party, since its formation, was supporting the cause of Eelam Tamils and was not aware of the reason behind the 'sudden action' of the government.
Moreover, when the party was in alliance with AIADMK some years ago, there was no change in its stand towards Eelam Tamils, he said. Perhaps, AIADMK, which was losing confidence of the people of late, wanted to curb the growth of MDMK and rising popularity of Vaiko, he said.
