Mumbai, May 31: A two-day conclave of the Left Front in Maharashtra--comprising Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), CPI and CPI-M will begin today at Alibag in neighbouring Raigad district.
The conclave will finetune the Left Front strategy to build a "secular and progressive" alternative in the state, maintaining equidistance from Shiv Sena-BJP saffron combine and the ruling Congress-NCP coalition.
The Left Front's camp would conclude with a public meeting to be addressed by West Bengal Chief Minister and CPI-M politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, the sources said. Nearly 500 leading activists of the PWP, CPI and CPI-M from all over the state would be participating in the two-day conclave, to be inaugurated by senior PWP leader Ganpatrao Deshmukh.
The conclave would also finalise a draft policy statement after a detailed discussion over the Left Front's future programme, sources added. The camp would give a clarion call for struggle on the burning issues facing the people of Maharashtra, which have been aggravated by the policies of both the Central and state governments, they said.
