Islamabad, June 13: United States Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld today categorically stated that his country had no evidence at all of the al Qaeda terror network operating in Kashmir.
In an apparent reference to India, he told a news conference here after meeting Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf that some people said there was some intelligence input about the matter but it was speculative in nature and not verifiable.
Mr Rumsfeld said that cooperation between Pakistan and the US on combatting the al Qaeda was so close that if there happened to be any al Qaeda element, Pakistan would find it and deal with it.
He said that steps announced and taken were an indication of an effort to reduce infiltration across the Line of Control. The world had gained the impression that the leadership in India and Pakistan was concerned and determined to take steps to de-escalate tension.
