Jabalpur/Indore, Nov 19: Hitting the campaign trail
in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today
sought a mandate for BJP in the state so that development work
could be done in tandem with his government and charged
Digvijay Singh government with "failing" to curb atrocities on
women, utilise central funds and solve the power crisis.
Addressing a series of rallies, he broached the three key
issues of women's status, power situation and condition of
roads that emerged upfront in the run up to the December one
assembly polls in the state.
Coming down heavily on the congress government in the state, Vajpayee said the Centre had given Rs 4000 crores to it in the last four years but a large chunk of it remained unutilised.
"Madhya Pradesh government has to give a reply about its failure to make use of funds given by the Centre for improving the living conditions of the people and development of the state," he said.
He alleged the state government "failed" to maintain law and order and the "magnitude of crime against women is much higher in Madhya Pradesh than any other province in the country."
